Potter mᴜst ᴜnleash ‘тrusted’ £80k/week ‘Magician’, he’s ɗesтroyed Villa before

Mason Mount should be given the opportunity to make his Premier League debut for Chelsea on Saturday evening when they host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. Graham Potter should give Mount the nod in the starting lineup.

What’s the most recent update on the Chelsea team before their match vs Villa?

Mount, who makes £80k per week at the Blues, decided not to join the England team during the international Ƅreak despite being selected by Gareth Southgate. This decision was made because Mount resumed his recuperation from an injury that will keep him out of action for the entire month of March.

But, it appears as though he may make his return to play against Villa this weekend. Potter provided an update on all of his injured stars during Friday’s pre-match press conference, and it seems as though he may be in contention to make his return to duty.

He said:

I believe it’s been difficult for Mason because he’s been dealing with some niggling ailments as well as noise and speculation off the pitch. Mason has trained, and he is available.

“But he’s a top professional and he’s a fantastic lad, so how he’s acted with me, how he’s acted with the team, and how he’s acted around us has been absolutely top,” I said. “But he’s a top professional and he’s a fantastic lad.”

Should Chelsea start the game on Saturday with Mount in the lineup?

Even though Potter could be tempted to ease the 24-year-old midfielder back into first-team action after being sidelined for more than a month, the reality is that his side needs three points on Saturday if they are to keep their slim ambitions of finishing in Europe this season alive.

Mount’s return of 1.3 key passes and 1.4 shoтs per game ranks him third and joint-fifth in Chelsea’s squad for those metrics, so it is clear that he can add some attacking тhreat to the team. After drawing 2-2 with struggling Everton before the international Ƅreak, Chelsea will need their most creative players available if they are to unlock Villa’s defense at Stamford Bridge. Mount’s return of 1.3 key passes and 1.4 shotтs per game ranks him third and joint-fifth.

After the former Derby County loanee scored the first goal in England’s 2-0 victory over Albania in 2021, Southgate was effusive in his praise for the player, saying:

“He is a fantastic player; not only does he smartly find space, but he also generates chances and scores goals. I thought he did an outstanding job with his performance tonight.”

Mount was certainly the difference-maker earlier in the season when Chelsea won 2-0 at Villa Park to extend Potter’s unbeaten start as manager. The academy graduate opened the scoring after a mistake from Tyrone Mings and then sealed the three points with a superb free-kick. This victory allowed Chelsea to extend Potter’s unbeaten start to the season as manager.

In the meantime, according to Sofascore, the Englishman was Potter’s second-best performer with a rating of 8.7. He also won 64% of his duels, in addition to two successful dribbles (100%) and one successful tackle.

Mount can still be an important player for Chelsea in the remaining fixtures, and if Potter wants to repeat the trick he pulled off in October, then he should consider unleashing the attacking midfielder from the start at Stamford Bridge this evening. Injury issues and his ongoing contract situation to the side, Mount can still be an important player for Chelsea in the remaining fixtures.
